However, as of May 10th 2019, it's been confirmed for western release on the Switch. (Official English website is here.). I already translated parts 1-3 (start reading from part 1 here), I may as well do 4-6 too.
As usual, a disclaimer: This story and all images belong to Compile Heart. You can find the original here:
Blood Maidens' true ages are unknown, but from observing their growth it's possible to make decent estimates, so Dawn assigned each of them ages.
According to their estimates, the oldest was Red Riding Hood at 11 years old. Beneath her was Cinderella at 9, and then Tsuu and Mermaid at 6. The youngest were three sisters judged to be around 5 who had just arrived at Dawn: Thumbelina, Snow White, and Sleeping Beauty.
The three sisters were originally cared for by the orphanage in the Liberation District. When those caretakers reported to Dawn that the three girls had bright pink eyes when they were found, Dawn immediately came to investigate, and took them in after determining that the three of them were Blood Maidens.
Finding the three sisters was an unexpected lucky turn of events for Dawn. Blood Maidens being their trump card against the Marchen, having more of them was always a welcome development.
Around that time, the Professor began to hypothesize that his plan needed at least 7 Blood Maidens. Jail has 7 individual areas with a 'core' at the center of each, and if they could divert the energy provided to those cores back into growing Jail's tower upwards, it might pierce the ceiling to the outside world and allow them to achieve their ultimate goal of escaping.
From their investigations, they determined that each area had immortal monsters scarier than Marchen, called Nightmares. Unable to think of a normal way to defeat them, the Professor hypothesized that he might be able to figure out a way to sacrifice a Blood Maiden to defeat a Nightmare. So, one person for one area. At least seven Blood Maidens - maybe their sacrifice would become necessary. But still...
"Our Blood Maiden Squad got 7 members faster than expected."
Her voice wasn't full of excitement at finding new Blood Maidens, but rather was somewhat accusatory and cold as she spoke to the Professor.
Professor smiled a bit as he turned his head and listened to Miko. "There's no need for such a scary voice, Miko. I understand your concern. These girls are still too young, I have no intentions of pushing them beyond their limits. Of course, if we can find a way to get through this without any sacrifices, all the better. That's why we need to continue studying them...after all, there are still so many things we don't understand about Blood Maidens..."
Saying that, he looked over at the table where some blood samples and analysis taken from the Blood Maidens was lined up.
"Eventually, the real battle will begin. At least until then, I want them to be able to have normal childhoods. I'm counting on you, Miko. I'm sure there are some matters where it's better they have a woman to help with."
She nodded her head, still displeased. Forcing the fate of humanity onto the backs of such young girls, she thought that anyone in Dawn would feel pained at the idea.
"Anyway Professor, about the earlier case with the orphanage..."
"Hm? What about it?"
"It seems like they're really establishing a religion over there. There's a girl with heterochromia that they're starting to call "Lady Oohime" and treating like their religious leader."
"Her younger brother, that boy called Chiaki, is starting to call himself "Hitsuka" and becoming a presence always at Lady Oohime's side. They're both still kids so I'm not sure if they fully understand things themselves, but I think someone is using them for some purpose."
"Is there some sort of concrete problem happening because of this?"
"No, not at the moment. They're acting like they always have, except occasionally Michiru makes some proclamation."
"I see...in that case, I think it's fine to just observe them for now. Their activities benefit us a lot, too. Humans can't count only on Dawn's help, the orphanage's activities are necessary too."
"Understood...I guess that's fine, but there's one thing I'm concerned about."
"And what's that?"
"The three sisters. They were friends with Michiru and Chiaki from before, and they still go over to the orphanage...well, now they're calling it the 'Order of the Sun', to play."
"Well, what's wrong with that? It doesn't seem like a big deal."
"But, lately they've been taking the other Blood Maidens close to their age with them there...and Michiru is starting to be looked at as a holy person among the church members. I wonder if we're seeing the seeds of something that will grow to cause a problem in the future."
"Hmm..." having finished listening to Miko's concerns, Professor stroked his jaw in thought.
"Close in age, so that means..."
"Tsuu and Mermaid."
Feeling excited at getting people they could consider younger sisters, Tsuu and Mermaid started to spend more time with the three sisters than they spent with Red Riding Hood and Cinderella. Eventually the three sisters brought Tsuu and Mermaid to the orphanage to introduce them to Michiru and Chiaki, who they were good friends with.
When she first met Michiru, Tsuu was surprised.
"You...your eye colors....!"
"Wow, you and I have the same kind of eyes."
Tsuu's eyes were red on the right and blue on the left. She first learned about it when Mermaid told her that she had "such beautifully colored eyes", and as Mermaid continued to praise her for them, Tsuu had taken a liking to her own eyes. So, seeing Michiru with her same eye pattern surprised her.
Of course, Tsuu wasn't the only one who was surprised. The other Blood Maidens, and Chiaki were surprised as well.
"I can't believe there's another person with the same eyes as my older sister..."
"Hehe. It makes me happy. My name is Michiru, and this is my younger brother Chiaki. Who are you?"
"Ah, I'm Tsuu. And this is..."
"Mermaid. It's nice to meet you."
"Tsuu, and Mermaid...I see, so you two are also...hmm, I see..."
Michiru spoke as if she was half-awake and half-dreaming. Tsuu and Mermaid hadn't spoken to someone with that sort of speech tic before, and weren't sure how to react.
"...hmm? But wait, you're..."
as she said that, Michiru tilted her neck a bit, and suddenly hugged Tsuu close for some reason.
Tsuu was shocked and Mermaid was speechless. Michiru brought her nose close to Tsuu's hair, not seeming to care at all about their reactions.
"W, wait, let go-"
Tsuu tried to push Michiru away, but her hands stopped.
Tsuu felt some strange sensation inside her head.
(What is this feeling? Who is this person....?)
The two were frozen in silence in that hug. Eventually Michiru lifted her face and brought it close, peering at Tsuu.
Mermaid yelled, and pulled the two of them apart.
"Otsuu is MY prince!"
Hearing Mermaid's scream, Michiru and Chiaki's eyes shot wide in shock. Meanwhile, the three sisters who knew how jealous Mermaid could get if someone got too close to Tsuu were desperately trying to calm her down.
"P...please calm down, Mermaid! Michiru isn't trying to steal Tsuu away from you or anything!"
"That's right! Michiru is a very kind person!"
Sleeping Beauty made a couple sounds of agreement with what her sisters were saying.
Coming back to her senses, Mermaid blushed deeply. She apologized and bowed her head, and Michiru laughed warmly.
"Ehehe. Ahahaha. I see, Tsuu is your prince, and you're bound to her, hmm? How lovely."
That smile seemed so kind, and so happy for them, that both Tsuu and Mermaid couldn't help but be momentarily entranced by it.
"Well then, let's all play together! It's fine, right Chi-?"
"Yeah. Hm, with this many people there are a lot of things we can do. What should we play?"
Chiaki picked up a wooden stick and started writing something with it on the floor. Chiaki seemed like a more reliable and stable type than his older sister.
With a game decided and teams separated, Chiaki put a hand on Tsuu's shoulder and whispered to her.
"Tsuu, I'm counting on you from here on. Looks like we'll both have our hands full, so if you ever need someone to consult with, I'm here for you."
"Eh? Ah, right, got it. Thanks."
Tsuu didn't understand at the time why Chiaki would say something like that only to her, but his voice was kind and she nodded happily in response.
Later, Tsuu would realize that it was because Chiaki thought she was also a boy. Tsuu wasn't sure whether she should feel happy as a 'prince' or sad as a 'Blood Maiden', it was a complicated emotion.
One day in the research laboratory, changing into her experiment clothing, Tsuu stepped into the cage as she was told.
There wasn't a single Blood Maiden who liked the experiments. But, they all knew that it was something they were obligated to do. Feeling like an animal in that cage, Tsuu followed instructions as the Professor looked at her from outside it.
There was a metal shelf inside the cage with many vials of pink liquid inside them lined up on top of them. The contents, as usual, were probably Marchen blood.
"Let's begin. Lick from the first vial."
At first licking Marchen blood was disgusting to her, but she was used to it by now. In fact, it tasted good and sweet. She didn't get to eat sweet things often, so she was almost beginning to look forward to it.
She did as she was told and licked it, a sort of soaring feeling going through her. Her eyes had probably turned pink, too, Tsuu mused idly.
Usually the Professor would have her try some things after drinking it, but this time he said nothing, so Tsuu just stood there.
"...Alright. Well then, next, try the second vial."
Not being made to do anything with the first vial test, Tsuu followed instructions and picked up the second vial.
As she brought that vial close to her mouth, she felt something different about this one.
(What is it? A different smell? Something about this one is...)
Even while harboring doubts, she licked that blood. The soaring feeling was the same as before. But.
(This feeling...I've felt it somewhere before...)
She could feel her body reacting to something.
This....this feeling, I think I know what this is, it's...
And then, Tsuu remembered.
Three days later. Behind the orphanage, Tsuu met with Chiaki.
Back when Chiaki thought Tsuu was a fellow boy, he had shown her special kindness. Even after learning that she was a girl, Chiaki continued treating her with the same special respect, like a brother she could count on.
That's why Tsuu felt comfortable confiding in Chiaki.
About that mysterious blood she had licked in the experiment a few days earlier.
And about how the feeling that came over her was the same as when Michiru had hugged her.
That's all for now, folks! There are still Parts 5 and 6 to go, and there won't be a yearlong pause between updates like there was between 3 and 4 now that I know the game is coming out and this will hopefully actually be interesting and useful to some people. I'll get to them soon™.
Next time: Big drama in little liberation district.
