Soft and fluffy Utawarerumono is a pretty nostalgic name to me. The anime that was based on the first game a decade ago is probably partially to blame for my taste for fluffy ears and tails to this day. I never played the first game (I know, I should feel bad) although I did watch someone else stream it for a while, I remember SRPG gameplay with timed hits. I think someone eventually made an English patch for it but for some reason I never got around to it back then. I feel like I owe it to my childhood to give this one a try. I read up on a short wiki summary of the first game to prepare myself for this one and was reminded of how off the rails the story went after about the halfway mark, once it stopped just being about the rebellion and immediate aftermath of that.
Looking on the official site for the sequel, Itsuwari no Kamen ('False Mask' seems to be what most people are going by) has a lot of returning characters. I'm looking forward to meeting up with Touka and Karura, Benawi and Kurou again and seeing what they've been up to.
I actually don't have very high expectations for this as a game, so maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised. Sadly I'm not going to be finishing this any time soon, because I'm going to temporarily drop it once Yoru no Nai Kuni comes out on October 1, and this upcoming weekend I have other plans, so I probably won't get to play it much. I can at least put in 5 or 6 hours to get a taste, though. Look forward to embarrassingly bad attempts at romanizing character names. By all means, if anyone stops by here and does know of some official romanizations for the characters please share them with me ASAP.
